frequently asked questions ...

We appreciate that you may have questions regarding your new Schools Internet Services. We've provided answers to the most commonly occuring questions below; however, if your question isn't answered here, please don't hesitate to contact the Helpdesk Team on 0845 307 7870, or e-mail support@swgfl.org.uk.

Q. What changes can I expect within the new Services?

A. We’ve built in a lot more choice and flexibility into the service. You’ll now see best of breed products and services alongside those that you’re already familiar with. The emphasis will be on quality services, delivered through a menu, allowing schools to tailor the service to suit them.

Q. Will I lose any of my data/settings?

A. One of our prime criteria for the ‘transition project’ that’s took place between July and September was that there should be no loss of data or settings.

Q. Where can I expect to see improvements?

A. You’ll see improvements in all areas of the service, from the network itself through to the individual products and services like email and content filtering, and the teams and processes that make it all work.

Q. When will all the changes be complete?

A. The initial transition phase is complete and most of the new services are now available. We’re now entering a transformation phase which we expect to conclude by September 2013, which will involve fully redesigning the network and all other aspects.

Q. Will there be downtime during transition?

A. We are aiming for the absolute minimum of disruption. It’s not possible at this stage to guarantee that there won’t be any downtime, but we can say that it will be planned to cause the least inconvenience, and will be communicated clearly and in plenty of time.

Q. Why have RM got the contract again?

A. SWGfL undertook an extremely intensive and detailed European procurement process, following EU regulations and guidelines, which included a full redesign of the service, opportunity for reviewing the network, and introduction of new products and services into the overall managed service, as well as a full commercial redesign. Initially seven companies were involved, and through short-listing exercises this was narrowed to three, who submitted final tenders.

Following detailed analysis of the three elements of the response (technical/transition/user experience, commercial, legal), the response from RM and partners was the most economically advantageous and delivered the best mix of quality and price.
